Things that go bump in the night arent just boogey men and monsters!

Lately, in the heavily wooded areas, people have been hearing new sounds in the woods surrounding their homes.  That is our topic today, boys and girls, elders and children.  Deforestation.

I am not telling this from the view point of a sympathizing friend or even that of an observer.  I have heard these sounds and movements around my house as well.  I grew up, and still live in, Mississippi.  Normally, I can identify anything I hear in the woods. A  chickadee, owl, wolf, dogs, cows, etc...

However... lately we have heard sounds none of us can identify.  Seen shapes we simply didn't recognize.  The reason for this?  Forests not too far from our house are being cut down.  What would you do if you lost your home?  Run to find a new one.  Animals all around are flocking to new, unknown-to-them territory to escape death.

However, this is causing more havoc than most would know. It is introducing new predators into an environ that is not prepared to deal with them. This disrupts the circle of life in that area.  And we all know what happens if animals begin to go into the cities to escape the deforestation.  People start hunting that animal instead of trying to give it a new habitat.

It's worse enough that cutting trees down is only making our air more polluted, but now we are taking the homes of animals without even providing any new places for them. the only land safe, the only land we bother protecting anymore, are where endangered animals or something equally important lives.  And the lumber companies are circling those places like vultures too.  We need to save the woods that both animals and humans call home.  Unless you want to live in a cement forest.  That's all a city is, just a lot less hospitable than a forest.
