Wow. I.... find it rather hard to respond.

So I'm sure some of you have heard about the James Foley, a reporter in Syria, beheading via ISIS.  It was an incredibly grisly death, done with a small knife.  Of course, I won't post the video on here.  I MYSELF don't want that in my head.  From what I am aware, though, the video is rather easy to find.  Watch with caution though.

Either way, he was being held for ransom for $132 million dollars.  Pocket change to the government.  Yet they refused to pay it, letting James Foley die.  Then the government is, from what it seems, surprised and outraged they actually did it.  How many people has ISIS killed now?  Why would they be surprised?  Better yet, why didn't they just pay the ransom?!

Who knows.  Maybe there were circumstances that couldn't be helped.  Or perhaps it was the governments pride.  It is impossible to tell whether they mean the truth or not, as they lie through one face and speak truth out the other.  Of course, the latter is remarkably silent.

James Foley had been covering the news over in Syria before being abducted by ISIS.

The CNN cover of the story.

I do believe though that we should pay our respects, in whatever way you may do so, to James Foley.

Oh dear... so many ways for this to go wrong...

Good evening, everyone!  Ok, so today's topic is Jibo, 'the world's first family robot'.  I haven't really heard anything about it until the commercial, so I assume not much is known about it yet except what the commercial says.  Jibo can show emotions, can track you, can be wired into your home to control the power and such.  It can respond to everything you say, it can take pictures of you, it can relay what is said to it to you, it can repeat voicemails to you... Most would find this revolutionary and it really is.

While scrolling through Youtube, I normally skip the commercials.  However, this time I was on another tab when I heard it.  The commercial itself is set as cheery, happy, and awe-inducing.  it explains what all Jibo can do and overall gives a sense of happiness.

This is the commercial.

Maybe I have simply watched too many sci-fi movies.  Maybe too much Matrix, Portal 1-2, and more.  However, this seems like it could go very wrong very fast.

It is probably seen by alot of people as simply a wonderful invention or innovation.  Who knows, it probably is.  But what if it is innovated further?  given human emotions it can control?  people always say it is not possible, but we are looking at the metaphorical prototype for this age.  There are robots now that can learn how to walk again within 2 minutes of breaking a leg.

Many scientists, as to be expected, are quite proud of themselves for their achievements in the robotic industries.  When you're happy about something you did, you want to improve on it, yes?  And so, metaphorically speaking, what if they just kept on improving it and improving it?  How smart would robots become?  I believe anything is possible and nothing is impossible.

It could very well be a wonderful thing.  These could very well change the world!  But if one person gets too prideful, and gives robots too deep of feelings and too much freedom, it will likely go wrong.  if not, good for them.

This has been Anonymouse.  Have a wonderful evening~!
